Croatia Struggle While Germany Strolls to Win in Second Day of Euro 2008

by admin on June 8, 2008

Todays fixtures in Euro 2008 saw Croatia play hosts Austria and Germany play Poland.

A fourth minute penalty gave Croatia the decisive goal as they struggled to put the game beyond doubt over Austria. Only the Austrians over physical style of defending saw them gift a penalty to Croatia. Other than that, the game was fairly even with the Austrians having the better of the chances in the second half. New Tottenham signing Luka Modric scored the penalty but did little else to justify his large price tag. Of course, one game does not make a player, but it looks like Modric may struggle with the physicality of the Barclays Premier League.

Final Score: Austria 0 – 1 Croatia

Germany, who have never been beaten by Poland, looked impressive. One of the tournaments favored teams rode their luck at times, but the result was never in doubt. Polish-born Lukas Podolski managed to get himself a brace as Germany went on to win 2-0. Germany had numerous chances to put the game away, but even though it wasn’t a rout, Austria will need to perform better if they are to get anything out of this years tournament.

Final Score: Germany 2 – 0 Poland
