Cristiano Ronaldo may have been the name on everyone’s lips today, but it was a thorough team effort that saw the Portuguese go through to the quarter-finals of Euro 2008. Even though he scored one and set up another, the current Manchester United winger was not totally on song today. The final scoreline didn’t do the Czechs justice however, as this was a much improved performance. Goals from Deco and an equalizer from Sionko saw the two sides go in to half-time at one a piece. Ronaldo scored midway through the second-half and Quaresma got an injury time goal which sealed the victory.

Final Score: Czech Republic 1 – 3 Portugal

Co-hosts Switzerland have the unwanted title of being first team knocked out of Euro 2008 as they were defeated by a last minute goal against Turkey. In conditions more suitable for water polo, the two teams looked uncomfortable on the ball. It was the Turks that managed to get the victory though as Turan scored with a list minute strike. Turkey will now face the Czech Republic for a place in the quarter finals as both teams are on three points going into the last game.

Final Score: Switzerland 1 – 2 Turkey
