Mark Hughes today was officially unveiled as the new Manchester City manager. Despite the Chelsea job being available and Hughes being hotly tipped to take over the post at Stamford Bridge, Hughes was apparantly drawn by the possibility of coaching Ronaldinho and fellow Brazilian Jo.
Hughes will be on a three year contract worth about three million pounds a year. That could be the bargain of the season as the new Man City gaffer is one of the hottest managerial properties in the UK.
“When opportunities present themselves you have to take them. If you don’t you then regret them for the rest of your life. This opportunity is perfect for me.”
Indeed, but what happens when Alex Ferguson retires in a couple of years? Will Hughes’ loyalties to his current employers be enough to prevent him from joining the red side of Manchester where he was once adored as a player?
Regardless, Hughes is under pressure to get results. The Manchester City chairman has an itchy trigger finger and he’s not afraid to use it.
