Sir Bobby Robson Admits Defeat in his Battle Against Lung Cancer

by admin on August 8, 2008

The sad news today coming out of England is that Sir Bobby Robson’s cancer has been described as terminal. The lung cancer is Sir Bobby’s fifth battle against the disease but this one seems to have gotten the better of an amazing man and soccer coach.

The man who discovered Ronaldo, who was Jose Mourinho’s mentor, who was one time Ipswich, England and Newcastle manager is taking the news with the grace you’d expect from a man of his stature.

“I am going to die sooner rather than later. But then everyone has to go sometime and I have enjoyed every minute,”

Thank-you for the soccer memories Sir Bobby and all you have contributed to the beautiful game, you will be remembered as a great man and true ambassador for the sport we love.

Both as a person and as a coach, Sir Bobby stood head and shoulders above so many others. He will leave behind a great legacy. He’s a man of grace and dignity, a proud Geordie fighter who has come up against a formidable opponent. The disease may take him down, but he’s going down with honor. I would expect no less from this wonderful man. He will be greatly missed.
