If you’re like me, you dread the end of soccer season. Regardless of how your team did last season, it’s still hard facing the summer with no (or limited) soccer. However, there are several things you can do to ease your pain:
- Get out and play: Soccer is a great way to keep in shape and make new friends. Head on over to your local soccer park where there’s bound to be a pick-up game.
- Take a coaching license: If you want to put something back into the community and learn something at the same time, a coaching course is a great opportunity. Ran by the NSCAA and the USSF during the off-season, you could do a whole lot worse than spending your time with like minded soccer people.
- Study: If you’re already a soccer coach and you’ve taken steps to upgrade your licenses, there’s some great reading material available. I’ve gained a lot of my own knowledge through reading about other coaches methodology.
- Help a fundraiser: Odds on that one of your local schools is a little short of budget, and guess what? Soccer is generally the first sport to be cut. Find out what you can do to help.
- Prepare for next season: If you’re a coach, now is the time to start planning for the Fall season. I know I’m starting pre-season training next weekend and I’m going through my gear bag making sure I have everything I need. Things like scrimmage vests, balls, ball pumps etc are all standard items you should have.
How does everyone else get by during the soccer off-season?
