When Real Madrid broke two world records after their signing of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo last week, what do one of their European counterparts do? Manchester United go out and sign Michael Owen on a free transfer from Newcastle United.
The way I see it, this could turn out one of two ways. Owen will either be a flop, or he will excel. He will get chances to score goals at Man Utd that’s for sure, but Owen right now is not the Michael Owen of old. However, there’s the small tournament next year called the World Cup. Owen will be desperate to show England boss Fabio Capello that he can still perform at the top level.
After miserable performances at Newcastle, Owen will have to prove himself all over again.
