Manchester City’s efforts to add quality signings to the already growing squad at the Eastland’s took a backwards step today as the club are set to pull out of signing Samuel Eto’o from F.C Barcelona. As one of the players earmarked by Mark Hughes as a critical component in the next step toward breaking the upper echelon of the Barclays Premier League, it looks like City have called time on trying to tempt the Cameroonian striker that his future lies outside of La Liga.

Despite being offered astronomical amounts of money, it appears that soccer’s superstars are rejecting Manchester City’s ambitions. David Villa, Franck Ribery and Kaka have all spurned the advances of City. One player who is rumored to be considering a $350,000 p/week contract is current Chelsea defender and England captain John Terry. Whether Terry wants to give up Champions League soccer with Chelsea though, is another matter entirely.
