I just found out about the Favela Project by visiting Who Are Ya Designs (soccer t-shirts).
Here’s a quote from their website on what they’re about:
The Favela Project is a not for profit organization that uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change in the lives of children in some of Brazil’s poorest urban areas. The Favela Project has two core objectives. The first is to work in conjunction with Brazilian Touch Soccer Tours to plan events to benefit children in Brazil’s favelas, or shanty towns. The second is to provide scholarships for eligible American youth soccer players to travel to Brazil to experience Brazilian Touch Soccer Tours and to give back to children in need in the favelas.
For those of you who read this blog (all 12 of you) know that I’m a youth soccer coach. I believe that putting back into your community is important. I grew up in Newcastle, England and I have a great knowledge and passion for the game of soccer that I want to pass on to youngsters. However, I also know that they are very privileged to be playing the beautiful game on such great fields in a happy, healthy environment – there are thousands of others who don’t get the chance.
That’s why this blog is lending its support and getting begind the Favela Project. You can do your bit by purchasing this t-shirt or dropping a link on your own blog.
